Tips on Growing Beets Microgreen
- Like many microgreens, beets microgreen seeds take 2-3 days to germinate. You only need 11-21 days to be able to harvest these microgreens.
- Depending on how much beets microgreens you want to harvest and eat, you can choose a suitable size tray. Your growing tray should have drainage holes and a water tray underneath it.
- Beets have an intricate root structure; they prefer soil as a growing medium. It is good to use a growing medium, approximately an inch thick, consisting of 80% sterilized soil and 20% earthworm castings to increase the number of nutrients for your plant.
- Moisten the soil before evenly scattering a tablespoon worth of seeds onto it. Sprinkle a little amount of soil over the seeds then cover them for 4-5 days. There is no need to do anything during this period except to check that the seed germination is happening.
- After 5-6 days when the seeds’ hulls are being shed, remove the cover and move the plants in a well-lit location. Direct sunlight is not necessary. A grow light will be good enough.
- For the next 10-15 days, monitor the plants and ensure they have water, but not soaked.
- They are ready to harvest once you see the leaves opening.
- Cut the stems close to the soil using scissors or sharp knife. They should be ready to eat immediately.
